Display — Transformation of Installation and Curatorial Concepts at the Emil Filla Gallery in Ústí nad Labem

The Emil Filla Gallery, an independent gallery space, has been around in Ústí nad Labem since the early 1990s. During the era of economic, political and social transformation, we were influenced by the transformation of the art scene and its strategies, aesthetics topics and aims. The specific position of the Emil Filla Gallery in the industrial town suffering from heavy problems illustrates how the exhibition making and curatorial approaches have been changing. Using examples of the exhibition concepts, curator works and projects, the paper will also describe the transformation from the traditional mode to the alternative possibilities of today. It will focus on installation works within the specific gallery space, on collaborative projects reflecting the social or economy lacks, on the hype of new technologies of imaging, and also on the educational practice of the mediation of art. To sum the paper up, there will be a discussion aiming to find regularities and similarities abroad.
